For the past four months,all schools have been closed down due to the Corona Virus pandemic, the world economy has been thrown into recession and the whole situation has proven to be quite uncontrollable as the virus keeps spreading and number of cases keep increasing everyday. In this article, I'll be focusing on REOPENING OF SCHOOLS.

Though, closing down of schools was adopted by the government as a means of curbing the spread of the disease,it has directly or indirectly caused a lot of problems which eventually will have effects on the society sooner or later. For example; as a result of the prolonged closing down of schools, incidence of crime keeps occurring every now and then. We keep listening to saddening news of rape, killings, robbery, kidnapping, ritual killings, fraud and so on. There's a popular adage that says " an idle hand is the devil's workshop". When students that are supposed to be in their various schools are at home, doing nothing, they begin to think of and engage in all forms of social vices which exposes the citizens to danger.
Also, closing down of schools for a long period of time amounts to wasting the time of students. By this time of the year and on the academic calendar of most schools, students ought to be looking forward to getting promoted to the next level , finalists looking forward to graduating e.t.c. But with the look of things right now, hopes are being dashed as this issue of closing down of schools is likely to add to the supposed number of years to be spent in various institutions. Students' time have been really wasted because not all schools, in fact, most schools have not organized online classes for their students and also, not all parents can afford to send their children to places where they can learn a trade or vocation. So, they just stay at home, without learning anything. 
As we all know that repetition aids learning, closing down of schools will bring about lower grades and general reduction in educational standard among primary and secondary school students  when  schools are eventually reopened because in a situation like this, students tend to forget what they have been taught.

Lastly, loss of job here and there, especially among private schools and University lecturers has been majorly due to closing down of schools for a long period of time, because most school management pay their staff's salary through students' school fees and other resources which are not forthcoming. Therefore resort to firing some of the staff. Other people such as petty traders, food vendors e.t.c find it difficult to make sales and profit as a result of this issue.
So, in my own opinion schools should be reopened as soon as possible. A lot of damages have been caused already, the best thing now is to reopen schools to prevent further damages. No one knows when an end is going to come to the spread of COVID-19 or when an appropriate drugs for it's treatment will be found, so we can't keep
waiting. We just have to adapt, learn to live by it, observe all safety precautions, wash your hands, sanitize it, use your mask, eat well, pray and stay alive. It is going to be well.
