(Hold on now...This is not about the regular S.R.C, but one that you'd agree that is essential to life as a believer in these times) 'God can be trusted...We only just need to take out more time to reflect on all He has done in the past and is still doing'.These were the words(though paraphrased)I heard as I listened to the sermon 'God can be trusted' by Pastor Mildred Kingsley-Okonkwo.I had heard similar teachings before but somehow this hit different. I knew God could be trusted by head knowledge but I wasn't too sure that I had reflected on His faithfulness as much especially when faced with difficult situations. The Bible says to be still and know, to watch and pray and to be quick to hear but slow to speak. In all these I see the importance of stillness and observation. These are what sum up reflection. To reflect is to sit and remember. In this case, we are letting ourselves breathe calmly, eliminating distractions and choosing to think about God,His son Jesus Christ and the precious Holy Spirit, pondering on all His faithfulness in our lives. It is often said that it is those who know how to count their blessings who give the best of praises. Only a man who is deliberately sitting and reflecting would be able to count his blessings and thus offer this high praise.
So I'll sum it up as this -Sit, Reflect and Count (SRC). Why so much ado about this, you ask? Well, only after the S.R.C is 'gratitude' really possible. Why did the psalmist often make a joyful noise and give thanks? Why do the twenty-four elders keep worshipping? Why shouldn't we as well? So before you lament about why things are not going your way,why you do not have what you think you need, why everything around you is the way it is and why life is worth living at all, why not change your strategy. Smile and choose to S.R.C. I remember times when I was so caught up in negative thinking and asking similar questions like the above, somehow I had resetting sessions with God.God seemed to set me up and make me still, so as l to reset my brain and wrong mindsets. Oh...did I forget to mention that with stillness comes knowledge.Yes,God is not calling believers to be still for no reason, there’s a knowledge that comes with being still. And with this knowledge comes liberation from whatever seemed like the biggest challenge or need or limitation of your life. Be still and know that I am God. Sometimes it's not even remembering material or physical things, but also, when you remember the cross and all the sufferings that our lover Jesus had to endure, you are encouraged.
A song by Sinach which I like so much and which I think sums up everything goes thus: "I remember all You've done for me Your perfect sacrifice and victory I remember all You've done for me Oh my God And I worship You today I worship You today". So next time you feel overwhelmed, confused and/or rejected, why not choose to Sit,Reflect and Count. When you do this, God turns things around and opens your eyes to see what He wants you to see .You are able to see God in that situation which your distracted heart has hindered you from seeing. You may find yourself breaking out in tongues, worship and/or prayers(maybe all three) and finally FREE!
