GUARD YOUR HEART BELOVED 

Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better is it to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud (Proverb 16:17-18). Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (or the body acts) Matt 12:35. What is in a man's heart will unconsciously or consciously come out of his mouth and actions. If you have a heart full of pride and contention then you will manifest that pride in you. And remember, God seeks to fill the same heart with the right seed, the devil seeks to fill the same heart with evil seed and that is why you are to guard your heart with all diligence. 

So that contentions would not fill your heart and disturb you from getting the best from God and from men. There are five gates to the heart and you need to protect all:

Mind: Protect your thoughts.
Ear: Do selective hearing
Mouth: What you say.
Action: What you do
Eye: What you see

If you open these gates to negative things then you will loose the benefits of God functioning through your heart. To crown it all let's see Prov 18:12, "Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
